AAHS : Who We Are
We are the Asian American Humane Society (AAHS), a lighthouse of hope and positive action since our inception in 2014. At the core of our mission is the (AAHS) Covenant House Teen Volunteers Association, where we extend a helping hand to those in need, particularly at the Covenant House Homeless Shelter. Our support also extends to Christian homeless shelters, offering not just aid but also compassion.
Our passion for the environment breathes life into our Environmental Club, inspiring change and nurturing stewardship. Education is another cornerstone of our work, as we believe in empowering minds with knowledge and resources.
Our journey is fueled by volunteering, advocacy, and fundraising, but most importantly, by a relentless drive to make a difference. We are more than an organization; we are a community of changemakers, united in our pursuit of a healthier, more compassionate society. Every step we take is a step towards a brighter future, and we do it all for the greater good, for a world where hope shines in every action.

AAHS - The Asian American Humane Society is a Covenant House Teen Volunteer Association that supports the mission of the Covenant House. Since 2011, we have been fundraising and advocating, and promoting education on behalf of homeless and at-risk teenagers and low-income families.
AAHS For The Public Good
Since 2014, AAHS has been the Free Education resource for homeless and low-income families.
Our goal is to help and enable teens, especially those who need us most, homeless teens and low-income families in school to reach their full potential, inspiring homeless teens with all members on track to graduate from high school for demonstrating good character and good citizens.
Welcome to Covenant House Volunteers - The Asian American Humane Society, a dedicated Covenant House Teen Volunteer Association that wholeheartedly supports the mission of Covenant Houses. Since our inception in 2011, we have been actively engaged in fundraising, advocacy, and the promotion of free educational resources to benefit homeless youths and low-income families across California.
Our passionate co-founders and volunteers have evolved into effective advocates for homeless youth within Covenant House California (CHC). When our co-founders initially joined Covenant House as a volunteer, they recognized that the CHC homeless shelter ( excellent program and facilities) lacked a strong connection with the Asian community. This realization ignited our mission to bridge the gap and foster a more harmonious relationship between two diverse cultures.
In our early days, our first task was to create a network among Asian societies across the United States.
We developed materials to raise awareness about homeless youth, including posters, brochures, and booklets, which we distributed both in print and online to Asian communities throughout America.
As we entered our second year, AAHS embarked on an aggressive fundraising campaign, reaching out to Asian donors to secure contributions for homeless youth support. We also organized a significant water bottle drive campaign, distributing winter jackets and blankets to those in need. In 2014, our collaboration with major Asian media outlets, including Korea Times, Korea Daily News, MBC, and KBS, resulted in an impactful investigative report on youth homelessness in the United States. The same year, AAHS Co-founders achieved a milestone by selling 40 gala fundraising VIP event tickets, marking the first time in over 40 years that Covenant House attracted such strong support from Asian communities in the USA. Since our media exposure in 2014, AAHS Co-founders have been tirelessly connecting Asian communities nationwide to support the mission of Covenant Houses both locally and nationally. Furthermore, in 2014, AAHS co-founders and volunteers organized a successful Mother's Day barbecue, becoming an integral part of CHC's annual summer events.
In 2015, AAHS deepened its involvement in Covenant House's focus on teen human rights, particularly in campaigns and fundraisers dedicated to ending teen human trafficking. We gathered more than 7,000 signatures on a petition advocating for legal modifications to protect teen victims of human trafficking in the USA.
During the summer of 2016, co-founder Tiffany Kim pursued legal studies at Stanford and authored a research paper on Youth Homelessness in America, which received high praise from her Stanford professor.
AAHS has not only fostered a beautiful harmony between two diverse cultures but has also provided thousands of youths with free educational resources. Today, we continue to make a positive impact in our community, both locally and nationally, by connecting numerous CH homeless shelters in the USA with Asian societies. We remain steadfast in our mission, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion and advocacy for homeless youth. Thank you for being part of this meaningful journey.
Moving forward, since 2014 the Covenant House Volunteers Association has focused on providing free educational resources to low-income and homeless teens. We have concentrated our efforts on assisting these teens in navigating the college admissions process, including support for the Common Application and UC application.
Our commitment extends to impactful initiatives such as mask drives and recycling drives, with a strong emphasis on environmental issues, thanks to the dedication of our volunteers. Additionally, our annual summer event, the BBQ at CH California, has not only celebrated cultural diversity through food but has also provided a healing atmosphere.
As we look ahead to 2024, we are thrilled to return to our summer event, marking a significant milestone as the first gathering after the challenges posed by Covid-19. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue making a positive impact on our society, no matter how small our contributions may seem.
As a mentor and supervisor of the Volunteer Association, I hold a profound hope for all the students and low-income families who have received our support. Our aspiration is that one day, they will become volunteers themselves, ready to extend their helping hands to teens in need and become beacons of light for those facing danger and in need of educational support. At Covenant House Volunteers Association, we are here to help and empower the future generation of compassionate individuals who will continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
During The Covid:
In the past, one of the most significant events for our volunteers was the 209-2023 Mask Drive. This initiative played a vital role in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, during which we collected and distributed masks to those in need.
Culture Club : Summer Event
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce our upcoming events, including a Summer BBQ event and a Food Culture event. We plan to invite 200 people from the CH community to share in our Korean food culture. We will be returning this summer in 2024.
Another area of focus for our volunteers has been recycling. We believe it is our responsibility to contribute to the well-being of our planet and work towards a healthier environment. Therefore, we have placed a strong emphasis on recycling campaigns.
Enviromental Club
Our Environmental Club has grown as robust as our fantastic Used Book Club and volunteering initiatives. In the Used Book Club, we collect and donate textbooks and study guides to low-income families.
Recently, we have expanded our efforts to include further environmental initiatives and continued support for educational resources for homeless and low-income youth. Stay tuned for more details as we strive to make a positive impact in our community and beyond.
Lastly, our educational resources have been expanding over the last few years, covering a wide range of subjects. Our primary focus is to provide free educational resources to our community and society as a whole.
